SABOTEUR: STICKLER
SELF-IMAGE (RISO & HUDSON):
reasonable, sensible, objective, moderate, prudent, moral, "good," rational
Type One is oriented around goodness: doing things the right way, having a strong inner moral compass. A One wants to leave things better than they found them. At their best, this shows up as real integrity: not just a rule they follow, but a bridge between who they are in public and who they are in private. There's a consistency to a healthy One; you get the same person no matter who's watching.
But when this goes too far, it can tip into perfectionism — believing there's only one right way to do something, and feeling like anything less than that is a failure. A One can start to feel like they have to do everything alone, because if they don't do it themselves, it might come out wrong, or sloppy. "If you want it done right, do it yourself" isn't just a saying for a One under stress — it's a trap.
So what does growth look like? It starts with something surprising for a One: brainstorming. Sitting in possibility, without immediately judging which option is correct. That's what builds flexibility. It also means letting themselves experience joy, and letting go of the fear that something good might actually be bad, or corrupt. That fear is what keeps a One gripping so tightly to control. Letting it go restores something important: trust in experience itself, rather than needing to fix or correct everything that happens.
And underneath all of that is something deeper: learning to access their own inner emotional world, not just their rules and standards. Feelings aren't something to fix. They're something to feel. A One growing in health starts to trust their own unique perspective, instead of only trusting what's "objective" or "correct." And maybe most importantly, they start to find real beauty in imperfection — not just tolerating it, but actually seeing what's good in what's unfinished, or flawed, or human.
Every step in this direction brings a One closer to a purer form of what they were looking for all along: wholeness, completeness, integrity.
